December's THE RUMBLE: LOS ANGELES is coming up on Thursday of this week and we're pushing the start time back a bit due to some holiday parties. FUTURE SOUNDS and THE OWL are both thrilled to have just added THE GROWLERS, the closest thing to THE DOORS LA has put forth in some time. Playing back-to-back Rumble parties (SF & LA) will be THE FEROCIOUS FEW from San Francisco. As always, our resident DJ's, MiCHAEL, are on the decks and will be celebrating the USC victory over Notre Dame.

If not, it's $5, so don't ask me for a guest list spot as the free option is yours.

NEW SOUNDS: EZRA FURMAN & THE HARPOONS

Not new to some of you, but new to us is the Boston/NY act, EZRA FURMAN & THE HARPOONS. Somehow we slept through their first release, even though it didn't slip by Paste, Alarm and the Chicago Tribune. I am not worried about missing it, but just glad I caught up to this gem on Minty Fresh and this second release, "Inside The Human Body". The first single, "Take Off Your Sunglasses" we've played on consecutive weeks on our FS WOXY show, but it's just scratching the surface. Let's get it out of the way quickly, an obvoius influence of BOB DYLAN is present, but who hasn't been influenced by the man?

NEW SOUNDS: THE FEROCIOUS FEW

Last week at The Rumble: SF @ Harlot, I was at the DJ booth with Mario Muse (who was killing it on the decks) and there was this kid there that started up a conversation with me. I was immediately struck by the amount of smack that he was talking for someone his age, and how full he was of himself. It was almost like Spencer on 'The Hills', someone you are in shear awe of because of how bold they are without fear, and something you can't stop watching or listening to because of that very fact. He mentioned he had a band, mentioned they were the greatest band in the world, and then told me they sounded like what MOTORHEAD would sound like it they stabbed BOB DYLAN in the throat. After hearing more and more about how they play guerrilla shows all over San Francisco, how the cops bust them on the sidewalks, and again, how legendary he was going to be, I simply HAD to have the music. After we landed back in LA and were cruising home from the airport, the whole FS team had also had run in's with this very same person that night, and upon hearing I had a copy of the CD, we all had to play it. The sound of his voice was honestly the very last sound I would have expected from that kid, who seemed almost hipster, but sounds more like something on Fat Possom Records. It's bluesy and raw and nasty and delightful, so he did in fact walk the walk after talking the talk. The band is called THE FEROCIOUS FEW and it's a two-piece, and I think we will be hearing more from them soon enough.

PHOTOS FROM THE NICO STAI-GHETTOGLOSS CD PARTY

From FUTURE SOUNDS NICO STAI CD RELEASE

FUTURE SOUNDS was thrilled to be involved with the CD release party of NICO STAI last night in Silverlake at Ghettogloss. If you were actually able to be in the room when the band played, you caught a smokin' set of new tracks from the CD with the longest name ever, as well as the old fav's that has brought them such crowds. Excellent evening by all, and the gallery was a perfect host.

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: DJANGO JAMES @ THE PAPER PARTY

Tonight at 11:30 PM, DJANGO JAMES & THE MIDNIGHT SQUIRES will be performing at PAPER MAGAZINE's 24-Hour Department Store in West Hollywood.

Here's what they list as the details:
PAPER is hosting its second annual 24-Hour Department Store, featuring goodies galore from over 30 of our favorite designers, artists, chefs and musicians, who will be setting up booths throughout PAPER's pop-up storefront space designed by genius architecture firm Johnston Marklee. It's going to be 24 hours of pure, unadulterated madness. Especially because in addition to the aforementioned vendors, Converse is presenting 24 bands in 24 hours, who will be providing the soundtrack for this insane, slightly surreal shopping experience.

LAST NIGHT'S RUMBLE: LA WAS A SMOKER!

My ears are still ringing from last night's set of music by THE YELLING. Holy Shit!! We've been following this band for months and last night's performance was their coming of age party. This band will not play rooms this small for much longer, or probably not rooms anymore at all. Like RAGE meets WOLFMOTHER, with the full package.

THE BLACKS were the first band to do back-to-back Rumbles, playing SF the night before and fighting traffic to get down to Hollywood for their first ever LA show. The tambourine explosion took place all over the crowd, and no one dared piss off frontwoman Louisa. Their set tore the cover off the ball.

San Francisco's BIRDS & BATTERIES opened up the evening with a number of new songs not on their brilliant record, and sadly, no photos turned up (yet) of their set. Michael Sempert's vocals have the most comforting affect and on top off it all, they're probably some of the nicest people you'll meet.

Resident DJ's MiCHAEL did what they do - turn it out!

Thanks to everyone (Aisah) who helped and who came out and fought that crazy traffic.

Thanks for the photos from Nassir!

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: THE RUMBLE @ 3 OF CLUBS

You are not going to want to miss the trifecta of talent that we're dishing up at THE RUMBLE: LOS ANGELES tonight. Opening up is a band we were happy to catch at SXSW, BIRDS & BATTERIES from San Francisco. We've been chasing them for ages so their appearance tonight will be special. And if last night's micro-set by THE BLACKS at The Rumble: San Francisco is any indication of what the band will do with a full set to run wild on, then we're in for a night of abuse. Closing out the evening is the band that is grabbing plenty of attention in LA these days within the industry, a band that still can generate a gaggle of A&R reps in a time when there aren't many left - THE YELLING. The band is currently featured on ITUNES. Our resident DJ's, MiCHAEL, also seem to be stars on the rise locally and each month they've been pushing the party harder from the decks.

So maybe you're still recovering from the Obama hangover, or maybe you're on a lucky streak so you should keep it going, but hell, it's only $5 or FREE if you RSVP at http://sonicliving.com/therumble-LA

BMI CARES

Pregnant woman goes into labor in voting line and she comes back to vote anyway...

I just saw this on CNN, and had to share it. Our dear friend and BMI representative is so hardcore!!!

This is what happened....
My wife is 9+ months pregnant with a due date of November 19th. She was in line waiting to vote this morning when her water broke and she went into labor before being able to cast her ballot. We rushed her to the hospital but she insisted on voting, so after having the doctor check her, she went back to the polls, contractions and all, and cast her ballot.
Just wanted to share this with your readers and viewers so that they no there's no excuse to not vote!!! :-)

NEW RELEASE: RED WIRE BLACK WIRE

A band we've loved for some time now has a new record scheduled for November 25th - RED WIRE BLACK WIRE - on a new label called Tough Customer out of San Francisco. Not only do those guys have great ears, they know how to work a band. The band is based in Brooklyn and they've already given taste tests on RCRDLBL.com as well as tour dates with MGMT and SANTOGOLD. The release is strictly digital and the music is worth diving into.

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: LYKKE LI @ EL REY - MANY GREAT SHOWS

An embarrassment of riches indeed is what we have tonight in Los Angeles if you like good music and want to start the Obama victory celebration early.

Running four deep: LYKKE LI, FRIENDLY FIRES, GRAND OLE PARTY & THE MAE SHI are playing the Sold Out El Rey tonight. Since being the first formal release of the Swedish sensation, Lykke Li, back a bit on Future Sounds 30, she's caught fire and become everyone's darling. Friendly Fires and that song 'Paris' is on every cool kids list these days, and San Diego's Grand Ole Party and LA's The Mae Shi give something for just about everyone.

THE SPINTO BAND (FS21), Glasglow's FRIGHTENED RABBIT and MINIATURE TIGERS play the Echoplex this evening. In a tough economy these venues are giving us our money's worth with line ups such as these - top to bottom strong.

A band I've always thought would've taken off in the US but hasn't truly, MANDO DIAO (FS08) plays tonight WE BARBARIANS at The Troubadour.

Competing with these shows are THE LAST SHADOW PUPPETS @ the Mayan and THE MONOLATORS @ Pehrspace.
