NEW SOUNDS: BLONDE ACID CULT - AMAZING BABY

So Future Sounds is fortunate that it has over 400 of the best scouts in the world helping filter music, but one source that never ceases to deliver amazing acts, one after another is SUGAR BEAR.

Sugar Bear has the golden ears, and this time he turned me onto two bands that I've been playing more than anything over the last week and I want to share.

BLONDE ACID CULT

I've been playing BAC each week since receiving their demo files on the FS radio show, and "Kick The Funk" has even been the my Jam of the Week. Sounding like THE STONE ROSES or THE CHARLATANS, calling their blend of the Madchester sound, "Madhattan". Can't imagine this band not taking off in the UK.

Download "Shake It Loose" (mp3 courtesy of The Run Down)

AMAZING BABY

FROM: Brooklyn, NYMYSPACE: http://www.myspace.com/theamazingbaby

Brooklyn four-piece AMAZING BABY is the latest delivery and as I understand it, one member was formerly in previous FS26 band, LIONS & TIGERS ("Zaire"). Amazing Baby some compare to ROXY MUSIC, but I'm feeling SUEDE. Track "Head Dress" has been on constant rotation since arrival but I can tell that "Supreme Being" is going to snag me as well as it gets kinda SPIRITUALIZED.

THE RUMBLE: SAN FRANCISCO FOR JUNE ANNOUNCED

We're pleased to have THE MAY FIRE performing a mini-set live at the June edition of THE RUMBLE: SAN FRANCISCO at Harlot. Joining our resident DJ Bagel Ted on the decks will be the kids from MINIPOP, another one of our favorite SF bands. Free Red Bull/Vodka drinks from 8PM to 9PM and other giveaways throughout the night.

TONIGHT IN LA: HOCKEY @ SPACELAND

They aren't the headliners, that job is held down by THE GROWLERS, but the opening act tonight at Spaceland is a band from Portland, Oregon, called HOCKEY, that show tremendous promise (although I haven't seen them live yet). I was slipped their full-length, Mind Chaos, by Ms Peggs, and it's fantastic.

Get on that Myspace page and listen to "Too Fake" or "Song Away".

MOUNT RIGHTEOUS ENSEMBLE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

The collective from just outside of Dallas, known as the MOUNT RIGHTEOUS ENSEMBLE are in Southern California for shows throughout Memorial Day Weekend, starting TONIGHT at the Silverlake Lounge (10PM set time - although they play throughout the evening in between bands). This group is an 'experience' that needs to be seen live, as all 11 members perform completely acoustic and louder than most screamo bands. Think the UT marching band gone indie rock. We're hosting a great BBQ on Saturday so hit me up if you're into great food and live music.

MOUNT RIGHTEOUS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA DATES
WED 21 - Silverlake Lounge 10PM
THU 22 - UC Irvine - Noon
THU 22 - The Boat in Long Beach - 8PM
FRI 23 - Chasers in San Diego

YEAR LONG DISASTER: LEDA AUTOMATICA VIDEO

Ever since witnessing the live fury of BIRDS OF AVALON on the Future Sounds radio show, I've been paying closer attention to what's going on over at Volcom. I was just sent this video for YEAR LONG DISASTER for their song, "Leda Automatica", which was written and directed by Matt Maiellaro and his team from Aqua Teen Hunger Force/Adult Swim. Now I haven't seen the band live yet, but my first listen has me wanting more. They are out on the road with THE CULT at the moment, then going out with BURNING BRIDES, and are lead by Dave Davies of THE KINKS' son, Daniel Davies.

NEW SOUNDS: THE YELLING

Have I got a band for you!! I've been playing a band on my radio show called MARYANDI for weeks, but there was no information on this mysterious band, not even a Myspace page, until now. They are actually called THE YELLING, and I think they've caught lightning in a bottle. Track "Blood On The Steps" is like blitzkrieg, and "21st Century Freak" takes BOWIE and mashes it with NIRVANA. Frontman Nathaniel Cox and guitarist Robert Davis grew up together in Southern Illinois before moving to LA to start a band. Robert's Mom owned and ran a guitar shop in Carbondale, IL and that triggered their musical interest, and after seeing the band live at our party a few weeks back, this guy has riffs up his sleeves that we aren't even ready for, as he's an incredible guitarist. Their afro'd drummer Michael Judd is from South Africa via Boston, and the latest addition is bassist Wiley Hodgden. I was impressed with Wiley's ability to finger pick one moment and play it straight the next, and even more floored when I found out how recently he joined the unit. Collectively they make music that will not sit unnoticed for long, and already, after only a few shows, the weasels are sniffing at their doors.

Your officially warned, THE YELLING will start turning up everywhere soon enough.

Download "Blood On The Steps" here. (YSI)
